It would be useful to know how one can determine if a modify statement actually modified anything (kinda like a @@rowcount for XQuery). Nice articles by the way :)
Currently there is no way to determine this. I have posted a feature request at https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/ViewFeedback.aspx?FeedbackID=363773
